Dorothy "Dot" Cook

2022-07-12

Dorothy “Dot” Cook, 73, passed away from this life on July 12, 2022, at the Community Hospice Jane and Bill Warner Center for Caring with her family by her side.

Dot was born January 17, 1949, in Dawson County, Georgia to the late David William Lyle and Carra Gregory Lyle. She graduated from Bacon County High School in 1967. Soon thereafter she moved to Fernandina Beach where she met the love of her life, Michael Cook, whom she married in 1969. Together, they built a beautiful life.

Dot held many positions during her career, but is most remembered for all the assistance she provided as the Family Court Services Coordinator for Nassau County. She retired in 2015.

Dot enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, cooking her family’s favorite meals, walking with her sister-in-love, Pam Cook, for exercise, shopping, and traveling. She was very involved in different ministries at First Baptist Church where she has been a member for over 50 years. She loved spending time at her sister’s house on Lake Oconee, always looked forward to the annual fall siblings’ trip to the mountains, but her most favorite was the Lyle Family Reunion held every June where she was able to spend time with her beloved family. She enjoyed spending New Year’s Eve having dinner at The Marina Restaurant with the Bowen, Greeson, Moore, and Sapp families who were her longtime friends, that she also considered family. She attended monthly luncheons with her “Courthouse Crew” and greatly missed being able to do that this past year. Most of all, she loved spending time with her grandchildren and being involved in all aspects of their lives.

Dot was predeceased by her parents, David and Carra Lyle; brothers Charles Lyle, James Lyle, and Dwight Lyle; and sister Ann McIntosh.

She leaves behind her husband of 53 years, Michael Cook; daughter, Kim (John Wayne) Thomas, son, Greg (Molly) Cook; and five grandchildren, Kelsie Cook (Landon Buchanan), Carra Thomas (Adam Simonton), Dawson Cook (Cassie Broad), Carson Thomas (Sarah Wensell), and Meagan Mccartt (Kevin Hartness).

She also leaves behind 5 brothers, Paul (Joan) Lyle, Mark (Isobel) Lyle, Joe (Barbara) Lyle, John (Kathy) Lyle, and Jesse (Barbara) Lyle; 2 sisters, Wanda (Randy) Meeks and Brenda (Mark) Edge; 10 nieces and 10 nephews; many cousins; other extended family, including her special sister-in-law, Pam (David) Cook; and many dear friends.

A memorial service to celebrate Dot’s life will be held Saturday, July 16, 2022, at 11:00 am at First Baptist Church Fernandina Beach. The family will receive friends from 10:00 am until the time of the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be made to Community Hospice and Palliative Care, 4266 Sunbeam, Road, Jacksonville, FL 32257 or online at support.communityhospice.com.
